We Took a Stand for Organic Agriculture

Recently the USDA announced they would withdraw the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices (OLPP) that set standards for animals raised in Certified Organic farming operations. This came in spite of the fact that organic farmers, consumers, and trade groups have worked with USDA for years to develop the OLPP.

In essence, the very integrity of the USDA Organic program could be rendered meaningless, and that spells trouble in the long-term. When consumers cannot trust the USDA Organic label for an expected set of standards – standards that were developed and supported by organic farmers – then the value of that USDA Organic label will be lost. And if the organic label means nothing, that will affect organic farmers’ bottom lines by undermining the perceived premium quality the organic practices bring to the consumer.

This isn’t about money. This isn’t about politics. This is about integrity.
