Annual Ryegrass
Annual Ryegrass is a fast-growing annual grass that provides excellent quality forage until it heads out. It is an excellent emergency hay crop due to its early spring development and quick re-growth. It is also a good alternative to oats as a nurse crop for alfalfa and works well as a green manure. Annual Ryegrass grows in all soil types but is most productive on medium to heavy soils. Depending on heat and moisture stress, it usually heads out in the seeding year, reducing forage quality.
