Hairy Vetch

Hairy vetch is a winter annual, viney legume that is one of the few cover crops to reliably survive the winter in the upper-Midwest. It produces abundant biomass and can fix up to 110 lb/N/Acre in the following spring. It is an excellent competitor with weeds and can scavenge soil phosphorus. For best winter survival success seed with winter rye, winter wheat or oats early in the fall. Great fit after small grains, silage corn, early soybeans, sweet corn or vegetables.
