Field Peas
Both spring peas and Austrian winter peas make for an excellent cover crop that establishes quickly, produces abundant succulent tissue, and can fix moderate to high amounts of nitrogen. Once established they are frost tolerant and moisture thrifty and an excellent forage crop seeded with a small grain. Peas can also be seeded early in the fall for a superior, winterkilled cover crop after small grains, silage corn, early soybeans, sweet corn or early vegetables.
