  • Fall planted, viney legume with exceptional biomass production
  • Can be heavy N fixer (up to 100 lbs of N/ acre at flowering)
  • Improves soil structure, good nutrient scavenger and competes well with early season weeds
  • Seed in mid to late August in the upper Midwest for best overwintering capability
  • Seed with oats, winter rye, or other companion crop to increase chance of winter survival
  • Produces hard seed; terminate vetch before seed set to avoid volunteer weeds
  • Do not seed into small grains if harvesting for marketable grain: seed is hard to separate
  • Requires inoculant for proper nodulation for nitrogen fixation
